We are delighted to announce Vanessa Lewis as the Sentinel Carer of the Year for 2016.
Here at Sentinel we provide care services across Shropshire and Staffordshire, and our staff are absolutely integral to our service, so we like to highlight a member of staff every three months in the ‘Star of the Quarter’ award – with each winner going forward for the overall Carer of the Year.
Steve Harris, managing director of Sentinel, says all four members of staff who have been Sentinel Stars during 2016 – Sara Cragg, Grace Oakley, Shani Degnen and Vanessa Lewis – should be very proud of themselves.
“We are lucky to have such a dedicated team of professionals caring for our customers and we are very grateful for all their hard work,” he says.
“The feedback from customers and fellow staff alike was excellent for all four winners of the Sentinel Star awards, but Vanessa is a worthy winner of the Carer of the Year award.
“She has shown herself to be a true asset to the team and a dedicated professional. She is eager to learn new skills and take on more challenges as her career develops with us and has handled everything with a smile.
“She has deservedly been promoted to team leader and has now begun to embrace this role with the same enthusiasm.
“The feedback we have had for Vanessa has been overwhelming and we are proud to call her a member of our team.”
Customers have praised Vanessa’s calm and caring nature, even to the extent of singing to a lady while waiting for urgent medical help to arrive.
Whilst caring for a poorly lady who had a seizure during her visit, Vanessa dealt with the situation calmly by calling 999 and then singing gospel songs to her to calm her down.
After this lady sadly passed away, her daughter told us how grateful she was to Vanessa, singing to her mother was beautiful and they will never forget, especially as her mother was a religious person.
Vanessa is a very deserving recipient of our Carer of the Year award and our congratulations and thanks go to her.
